The Cowboy of the Western World
A limited edition print created for the Hay Festival of Literature. The cowboy illustration was originally produced for the annual charity auction Secret 7″, whereby artists and designers create original artwork for a 7″ single record sleeve without disclosing either their name or the name and title of the record. Each year a selection of seven different songs by seven artistes are selected and each designer can choose whichever track to illustrate. The collection of record sleeves, 700 in all, are then exhibited and sold with all proceeds going to a charity of choice. The cowboy illustration here was for ‘Rider On The Wheel’ by Nick Drake.
I later added the bottom section of a Penguin-style paperback to my cowboy illustration and re-named it The Cowboy of the Western World for inclusion in an exhibition of my work at the Hay Festival.
