60th Anniversary Who Stamps

I’m more than well chuffed that my album cover for The Who’s 2006 album Endless Wire is on one of the commemorative stamps issued by the Royal Mail on Thursday 17th October 2024, celebrating 60 years of The Who. I’d like to think that my late mum would be very proud of me. In 1976 I took her into a record shop and showed her my name on the back cover of Paul McCartney & Wings’ album. Wings Over America. “Very nice!” she murmured, seemingly not that impressed. We then went to her local newsagent where I showed her one of my illustrations in that week’s edition of the Radio Times. She was jumping up and down with excitement. “My son did that! My son did that!” she cried to the newsagent. My name on a former-Beatle’s album meant bugger all to her but my drawing in the Radio Times was the real deal. If, like my mum, you too would like to be impressed, here’s the complete set of Who stamps.

On seeing the set of Who stamps, Roger Daltrey commented, “The artwork on the album sleeves was almost as important to the success of the record as the music. It’s great to be reminded of them.” To which Pete Townshend added, “ “Stamp! Stamp! Stamp! It’s what I’ve done on stage all my life, sometimes in the air. At last my stamping, and that of my buddy Roger, has been honoured properly, and will help letters, parcels and birthday cards travel through time and space, just as we have.”
