The Who With Orchestra Live At Wembley
In the summer of 2019, during their Moving On! US tour, The Who played a one-off UK show at Wembley Stadium in London accompanied by a 53-piece orchestra. The Who touring band included Simon Townshend, Jon Button, Zak Starkey, Billy Nicholls and Loren Gold along with lead violinist Katie Jacoby, lead cellist Audrey Q Snyder and the orchestra conducted by Keith Levenson. The concert was recorded and The Who With Orchestra Live at Wembley was released by Universal in March 2023 as a three-LP set available in both black vinyl and coloured vinyl as well as a 2-CD plus Blu-ray audio disc.
The Who’s tour photographer William Snyder was on hand at this show and produced some stunning shots for me to select for the lavish triple-gatefold packaging. It was not difficult to choose a great shot of Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey for the front cover. I figured that the two of them were so well-known that a shot of their backs, no faces to be seen, would easily identify them. Pete, sporting a long beige linen duster coat over his trademark boiler suit (not to mention his Prada boots), arm outstretched ready to windmill, and Roger, in his classic pose spinning his microphone. Says it all really. It’s The Who.
I gave the classic Who roundel logo a new suit of colours for this album package which incorporates the colour palette of yellow, blue, red, white and green with the black gradated screen dots seen throughout the album’s graphics.
